The Beatitudes of Mary Ward

Even in such secular times I think most people may benefit from these wonderful beatitudes of the Venerable Mary Ward IBVM 1585-1645. Her birthday is on 23rd January, the anniversary of her death 30th January.

Happy are you who accustom yourselves to act not out of fear but solely from love.

Happy are you who recognise that the Spirit of God brings peace and serenity.

Happy are you who recognise and acknowledge the gifts of God and thank Him for them.

Happy are you who are willing to learn gladly from everyone.

Happy are you who do not begin actions rashly or hastily but weigh all thoughtfully.

Happy are you who perform all you are called on to do faithfully and diligently.

Happy are you who remember that we can do nothing but God can do all.

Happy are you who undertake no employment which you cannot hope to complete with honour.

Blessed are you who do not let yourselves be deterred from doing good by any opposition.

Blessed are you who believe that God will do His will even in confusion.

Blessed are you who work with great tranquility, joy and magnanimity.

Blessed are you who believe that what is not done in one year can be done in the next.

Blessed are you who are faithful to your friends.

Blessed are you who discover and act on the freedom you have to refer all to God.

Blessed are you who love and speak the truth at all times.

Blessed are you who do good and do it well.

Glad are you who put good construction on all that you see and hear.

Glad are you who forgive cordially and entirely.

Glad are you who do ordinary things well.

Glad are you who remember that we should be such as we appear and appear such as we are.

Glad are you who truly believe that God is rich enough for us all.

Glad are you who do your best and trust that God will help.

Glad are you who cherish God’s vocation in yourself and others.

Glad are you who live your vocation constantly, efficaciously and lovingly.
